Chocolate Soldier

Chocolate Soldier: Operetta by Oscar Straus. Based on the play Arms and the Man by George Bernard Shaw. Lt. Bummerli, a Swiss mercenary in a Serbian army, takes refuge from his Bulgarian enemies in a Bulgarian general’s house. Upon discovery by the general's daughter, Nadine, he briefly threatens her with his revolver, and then lays it down. Nadine takes it up in turn. Laughing, he shows her in his bullet pouch are only chocolates. Nadine finds herself enchanted by the “chocolate soldier.” So begins a journey of mixed-up love notes, to ruined weddings, to discovery of true love.
